Hornets’ LaMelo Ball Makes History As Youngest NBA Player To Record Triple-Double

SAN FRANCISCO, January 11, (THEWILL) – On Sunday, LaMelo Ball, 19-year-old rookie for National Basketball Association (NBA) Charlotte Hornets became the youngest to ever record an NBA triple-double.

The unfurling of the rare teenager’s talents means the Charlotte Hornets have got themselves a great deal out of the 2020 draft. In the 10 games played so far, LaMelo has not disappointed. While coming off the bench in games, the rookie has averaged 13.1 points, 5.9 assists, and 6.3 rebounds.

Against his brother, Lonzo Ball’s team, the New Orleans Pelicans, LaMelo missed his first chance to become the youngest player to record a triple-double by a shot when he ended the night with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 9 assists.

However, at the second shot of trying, he did not miss on Sunday night. His Hornets side beat the Atlanta Hawks 113-105. This time around, LaMelo’s night ended with 22 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists.

At 19 years and 140 days old, the Hornet’s Guard became the youngest player in the NBA to record a triple-double. In so doing, he overtook Markelle Fultz, the previous record-holder who was 19 years and 317 days for his triple-double in April 2018 for the Philadelphia 76ers.

On the court, LaMelo, displays a natural gift for grabbing rebounds. Weighing only 180 pounds, his ability to effortlessly take so many rebounds, is what only gifted players do in the NBA.

In post-match comments, when asked about the ease of his rebounds, LaMelo said it was because he played a lot of 21 growing up. It is only imaginable the number of pickup games he played while growing up. As the youngest of the three Ball brothers, the third being LiAngelo, LaMelo would have had someone to play ball with always.

That explains his ability at the rebound because rebounding is a must if you have to win a match. And, he obviously won many with his skill set the way it is. Now, he has a record to show for it.

The rookie’s impressive quality has not failed to register and it is to the advantage of the Hornets.
