July 06, (THEWILL) – Some high profile inmates at the Kuje Correctional Centre, Abuja, have been reported missing after gunmen attacked the facility on Tuesday night.
According to report by The Nation, former Plateau Governor, Joshua Dariye and his Taraba counterpart, Jolly Nyame, as well as the embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, were some of the inmates at the Kuje Correctional Centre.
The Media reports that Dariye, Nyame and Abba Kyari, as well as other notable inmates are currently missing at the Centre.
Sources within the facility said some terrorists and other criminals might have escaped.
The source, however, added that it has not been confirmed if Dariye and others were evacuated for safety before the attackers gained entrance into the facility.
The Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Francis Enobore and his FCT junior officer, Humphrey Chukwuendo, could not be reached. Their mobiles were switched off.
However, as of the time of filing this report, there was no official confirmation on the number of escapees and their profiles.
