Haaland Takes The 2020 Golden Boy Award

BEVERLY HILLS, November 21, (THEWILL) – Erling Braut Haaland, the young Borussia Dortmund goal-poacher has won the 2020 Golden Boy award after what has been a stellar first year for the Norwegian with the Bundesliga club.

The prize is an annual affair awarded by Italian newspaper Tuttosport. Last year, the gong went to the Portuguese forward of La Liga club Atletico Madrid Joao Felix. It is given to the best player aged 21 or under from one of the top-tier European leagues.

This year, the Norwegian came out tops followed by Barcelona teenager Ansu Fati (2nd) and Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies (3rd) while Borussia Dortmund team-mate Jadon Sancho and Rennes prospect Eduardo Camavinga rounded off the top five.

Phil Foden of Manchester City, Mason Greenwood of Manchester United, Bukayo Saka of Arsenal and Callum Hudson-Odoi of Chelsea were all in the initial 20-man shortlist.

Haaland netted 44 goals in all competitions in the 2019/2020 season. 16 of his goals were in Dortmund’s colours after a mid-season move from Austrian champions Red Bull Salzburg to the Bundesliga.

This term, the 20-year-old has scored an impressive 11 goals in 11 matches, including four in the Champions League.
