September 01, (THEWILL) – At the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, Erling Haaland struck a perfect hat-trick in just 38 minutes, to help Manchester City thrash Nottingham Forest 6-0.
After scoring two early close-range goals to give City a 2-0 lead, Haaland converted John Stones’ header to set a new English Premier League record with nine goals in his first five games.
To add to that dominant display, strike partner, Julian Alvarez scored two goals on his first start in the EPL, while Joao Cancelo’s goal, after Haaland’s hattrick and before Alvarez’s brace, helped to further increase City’s advantage.
The commanding victory ensured Pep Guardiola’s team maintained their unbeaten start to the new campaign and left a menacing warning for any potential rivals, as the champions are now fully prepared with the advantage that Haaland’s performance promises.
Both teams are in action next on Saturday, as EPL newcomers Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth play at Nottingham, while Aston Villa host City.
