October 2, (THEWILL) – At the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, Erling Haaland and Phil Foden each scored three goals, to help Manchester City defeat Manchester United 6-3.
The reigning English Premier League champions put on a merciless display, tearing United apart repeatedly with their pass-and-move style of play to lead by four goals at the break.
Early in the second half, Antony scored a superb strike, and Anthony Martial, who had been on the bench, added two more goals late to raise the score to a more respectable level. Despite this, City otherwise dominated Erik ten Hag’s team.
The only unbeaten club in England’s premier division this year, Pep Guardiola’s team moved back to within one point of league leaders, Arsenal, at the summit.
On Wednesday, City will play FC Copenhagen at home in its return to UEFA Champions League competition and the following day, United’s next Europa League away match is against Omonia Nicosia.
