BEVERLY HILLS, April 25, (THEWILL) – Over 35 persons have been abducted and herds of cattle rustled as gunmen suspected to be armed bandits, attacked Chiri Boda and Fuka in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.

The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, allegedly left many villagers disorganised as many of them scampered into different directions in the bush for their lives.

Chairman, Niger Concerned Citizens, Alhaji Muhammad Awaisu, who confirmed the incident, disclosed that 10 out of the 15 wards in Shiroro Local Government Area of the state were under the control of the daredevil bandits.

He said the only five wards that were not under bandits’ control are: Gusoro Zumba, Bongajiya, Bina, Sheyi lapa and Ubandoma, but were mostly occupied by the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from various wards of the council areas seeking temporary refuge.

Wana also explained that eight of the wards under bandits’ control were in riverine areas while two of them were from the ground surface.

He, however, appealed to the state government and the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency come to their rescue in order to enable them return to their ancestral homes with the view to start preparation for this year’s wet season farming activities in those affected communities.

Wana also stressed the need for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to supply those IDPs whom he said were more than 80,000 persons with necessary relief materials and support to ameliorate their hardships.
