June 09, (THEWILL) – In the other TotalEnergies 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tie in Nigeria’s Group A at the Stade de Marrakech in Morocco, Zinho Gano scored twice in his competitive debut to help Guinea Bissau rally from a goal down to flog Sao Tome & Principe 5-1 and start their qualification campaign in style.
Baciro Cande, the manager of Guinea Bissau, decided to give competitive debuts to Mamadi Camara, Dalcio Gomes, and Zinho Gano. But, Sao Tome came into the game with some confidence after eliminating Mauritius in the preliminary round, and it was they who struck first.
However, the 21st minute Edmilson Viegas lead was levelled five minutes later by Alfa Semedo, who was set up by the youngster Camara. Then, Gano scored twice in the 50th and 58th minutes to put the Djurtus ahead. Experienced forward Piqueti Djassi was the provider on both occasions.
In the 81st minute, substitute Zidane Banjaqui increased the lead before Jorginho Intima wrapped up the emphatic victory for the Djurtus moments later.
Guinea Bissau lead the group on goal difference, with Nigeria in second place following the first round of Group A matches.
