Group Blasts Saraki Over Interference In Plateau Affairs

November 11, (THEWILL) – The leaders and elders of Plateau State in Lagos, on Tuesday, came down hard on former Senate President Bukola Saraki for instigating crisis in the state legislature.

The elders, under the aegis of the Plateau Progressives Caucus, also accused Saraki of allegedly denigrating the state governor, Simon Bako Lalong, by trying to link him to the removal of the former Speaker.

In a statement issued Thursday and signed by its convener, Chief Methuselah Gyang, the group said “we are aware of the nocturnal meetings Saraki is holding with the suspended members with monetary inducements to instigate crisis in Plateau State”.

The group expressed shock at Senator Saraki’s attempt to drag the person of Lalong into an activity of an arm of government, thereby abusing the courtesies and privileges the governor accords him.

“For the umptieth time, we state that the Governor has no hand in the impeachment of former Speaker Abok Nuhu Ayuba or the emergence of Rt. Hon. Yakubu Sanda as the new Speaker,” the statement said

It further read, “The governor had distinguished himself as the first Governor to grant full autonomy to the Legislature and the Judiciary. With an enviable record of being the longest serving Speaker of Plateau State House of Assembly, Gov Lalong survived a hatched recall process from the House, which later propelled him as the National Chairman of the Conference of former Speakers of State Legislatures, a position he holds to date. Just last week, he led over 40 former Speakers across the country on a condolence visit to Cross Rivers State. For someone who has contested and won elections since 1999, Lalong’s democratic credentials is bound to attract envy.

“Why is Senator Saraki, a PDP member fighting for the retention of the former Speaker, an APC member?

“Why is Saraki more interested in Plateau APC affairs than his native Kwara affairs?”.

“His voyage as chairman of the PDP to Plateau PDP recorded disastrous results. His arrogant disposition further deepened the crisis, resulting in petitions and court actions that eclipsed the fate of his party during the last Local Government elections in Plateau State”.

The group pointed out that the emergence of Prof Iyiorcha Ayu from North Central as the national chairman of his party the PDP has closed the ambition of presidential hopefuls from the same zone.

“As Senator Saraki continues with his new found role as instigator-in-chief, we advise him to concentrate on defending his case of misappropriation and money laundering with the EFCC, now that he’s ambition of taking a shot at the Presidency has hit a brick wall”, the statement read.
