December 07, (THEWILL) – Trevoh Chalobah’s hamstring injury has been ruled out by scans, and the Chelsea youngster could return against Everton on December 16.
The 22-year-old sustained the injury in the 2-1 win against Watford, and it was initially anticipated that he would miss a long amount of time, with manager Thomas Tuchel revealing that additional scans were required to determine the severity of the problem.
Fortunately, it turned out to be not that horrible. According to the scan results, Chalobah will not require a lengthy layoff and might be back in training next week if all goes well.
The youngster will not play Wednesday’s match against Zenit and is unlikely to feature against Leeds United at the weekend, but he is expected to return for the Everton match.
Under Tuchel, the Blues Academy graduate has had a breakout year, giving Chelsea the confidence to put their pursuit of Sevilla’s Jules Kounde on hold.
Chelsea had initially been connected to Fenerbahce’s Attila Szalai, with Hungary manager Marco Rossi stating a trade has been agreed, but some reports have debunked that link, claiming the Champions League holders are not interested in Szalai.
The news of Chalobah’s possible return is encouraging for the Blues, who appear to be overcoming a minor injury problem. Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner have both returned to full training, while Mateo Kovacic, who has been sidelined for eight games due to a hamstring injury, has resumed light training.
Kai Havertz is also working with the first team squad after recovering from an injury suffered against West Ham, leaving Ben Chilwell and N’Golo Kante as the only players on the sidelines
