June 06, (THEWILL) – On Sunday, the contest for first place in Group E of the TotalEnergies 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers was blown wide open with Ghana unable to find a winner as the Central African Republic held the Black Stars to a 1-1 draw.
Although the Wild Beasts surrendered the game’s first goal after 17 minutes at the Estadio 11 de Novembro in Luanda, Angola, the CAR side equalised before halftime.
Mohammed Kudus’ curling shot from the edge of the box beat goalkeeper Aladun Kalimba, putting the Black Stars ahead in the 17th minute. The lead lasted until four minutes before the break when Karl Namnganda scored with a powerful left-footed drive from distance.
Both teams failed to register a single shot on target in the second half of the match. And, after matchday 2, Ghana’s goal difference puts the country ahead in Group E, with four points apiece for Ghana and Angola, and one point each for Central Africa and Madagascar.
In September, Angola will play Ghana in a doubleheader on matchdays three and four, while Madagascar will face the Central African Republic.
