November 14, (THEWILL) – Crystal Palace’s Conor Gallagher has been called up to the England senior squad for the first time.

Gallagher has been promoted from the under-21s to Gareth Southgate’s squad for Monday’s encounter against San Marino, and will train with the team at the Tottenham Hotspur Training Ground before the match.

In the meanwhile, Mason Mount, Jordan Henderson, Raheem Sterling, Jack Grealish, and Luke Shaw will not travel with the team for the World Cup qualifier.

Mount and Shaw will not be joining the team owing to dental surgery and concussion, respectively, while Henderson and Grealish will return to their clubs for further injury assessments, and Sterling will miss out due to personal reasons.

Gallagher, who is on loan from Chelsea for the season at Palace, played 89 minutes in England Under-21s’ 3-1 win over Czech Republic on Thursday.

So far this season, the 21-year-old has been in excellent form for Palace, scoring four goals in ten Premier League games from midfield.

He is not the only player from the under-21s to be called up during the international break, with Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe being called up on Monday after Marcus Rashford and James Ward-Prowse withdrew, as THEWILL reported.

After a 5-0 win over Albania on Thursday, England simply needs a point from the San Marino match to clinch qualification for the Qatar World Cup next winter.

It is a big step up for Gallagher, who joined Palace on loan after a difficult debut Premier League season with West Bromwich Albion in the 2020/2021 season. He made an immediate impact, scoring two goals in his second game in a 2-2 draw with West Ham.

Gallagher has scored two more goals and two assists since then, putting in steady midfield displays under new Palace manager Patrick Vieira
