Garcia Ends Raducanu’s Grand Slam Hopes In Straight Sets

June 29, (THEWILL) – With ruthless efficiency, Caroline Garcia put an end to Emma Raducanu’s Wimbledon run by cruising to a 6-3 6-3 victory in the second round on Wednesday.

Raducanu was not at the fluent best that she displayed in her first-round victory, where she gave a glimpse of her dazzling run to the 2021 US Open. Unfortunately, none of that was on display as Garcia turned up the quality of her talent on Centre Court, to the disappointment of the British crowd.

Garcia’s performance was remarkable and she won the two sets in just under an hour and a half, thanks to frequent breaks in each set, from which the British teenager could not return.

It is worth noting that due to a side injury Raducanu sustained in Nottingham earlier in the summer, she had little time to prepare for grass matches while Garcia went into Wimbledon in excellent form after winning the Bad Homburg championship.

That was a key differentiator, as Raducanu, who began brilliantly, was eventually pushed back and outmatched by a more assured opponent. Raducanu first started to regain her composure as the fans cheered her on to motivate the Brit, but it was not enough, and Garcia impressively won with a backhand winner.
