Fury Calls Time On Career With Sixth Round Uppercut Knockout Of Whyte

April 23, (THEWILL) – British heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury, landed a devastating uppercut to stop fellow Brit challenger, Dillian Whyte to retain his WBC heavyweight title, before re-confirming his retirement.

Up until that time in the sixth round, it was a gritty fight, but Fury demonstrated why he is one of the finest boxers in the world with a spectacular end to a glittering boxing career.

It was a stunning uppercut in front of 94,000 Wembley spectators, and it was the one punch Whyte did not see coming before it knocked his lights out temporarily.

Although Whyte regained his footing, when the referee sought to confirm his ability to continue, he wobbled towards the referee, who had an easy decision to make and called the fight off.

As the referee pulled them together before the first bell, Whyte hardly gave Fury a glance. The challenger started the battle strangely by fighting southpaw, and he got off to a good start. However, Whyte made a mistake when he misjudged his angles in his new stance and was caught with a powerful right with 30 seconds to go.

To keep the fans on their toes, Whyte switched to orthodoxy for the second round. It was difficult to score because both players were still getting to know each other, but Whyte appeared to be a little slow on his feet.

Fury’s superior boxing skills were obvious by the third round, and while he rocked Whyte backwards a few times, it appeared like the Gypsy King was playing with the challenger.

It became dirty at the start of the fourth period, with Whyte landing a late one and Mark Lyson giving both men a ticking off, but the pattern remained the same: the challenger swinging and missing, and the champ landing on the counter.

As Fury got on the front foot in round five, a cut had opened up next to Whyte’s right eye, and he sniffed blood, executing several decent combinations and taunting his opponent.

Whyte swung frantically and futilely in the sixth round, seemingly trying to at least strike a fortunate knock while Fury muttered lovely nothings in his ear. The difference in quality between the two fighters could not have been more obvious.

And when Fury wrapped it up, it was with that vicious uppercut, sending Whyte crashing to the mat, from which he rose defeated.
