March 03, (THEWILL) – After reportedly slamming and discharging a gun into a vehicle carrying a man accused of assaulting one of his young relatives, former UFC fighter, Cain Velasquez, has been charged with 10 counts, including first-degree attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
After being charged with one felony count of a lewd and lascivious act with a kid under the age of 14, Harry Goularte, Velasquez’s target, was released from detention. The child involved is a “close relative” of Velasquez’s, but the child’s identity has not been revealed.
Velasquez is suspected of slamming his truck into a vehicle transporting Goularte and then shooting into the vehicle multiple times. Velasquez shot Goularte’s stepfather, according to Santa Clara County District Attorney, Jeff Rosen.
Rosen told reporters on Wednesday that: “The sad tragedy is that Mr Velasquez chose to take the law into his own hands, endangering the public and everyone in the truck. This act of violence also causes more pain and suffering to his family.”
When police searched Velasquez’s truck, they discovered a 40-calibre semi-automatic weapon. The mags in the rifle were missing eight bullets.
If convicted of the charges, Velasquez, 39, faces a lengthy jail sentence. Velasquez, a two-time heavyweight champion in the UFC, retired from the sport in 2019. Since then, he has pursued a professional wrestling career, working for WWE and Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide.
