August 5, (THEWILL) – Former Nigerian ambassador to the Philippines, Ambassador Akinyemi Farounbi, has mourned the demise of former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Tafa Balogun, who died on Thursday, at the age of 75.
Farounbi, in a release he issued Friday, sends his condolences to the Orangun of Ila, Oba Wahab Kayode Oyedotun, the immediate family and friends of Mr Balogun, the Nigeria Police Force and the people of Ila-Orangun, where the late IGP hailed from.
He described the late Balogun as a true Nigerian, whose contribution towards making the country secured remains indelible
His statement, “It’s sad and unfortunate that we have lost a great and experienced Police Officer, at a time that we need him most. He was the originator of the concept of community policing.
“If he had been allowed to nurture the concept, it would have made the current insecurities impossible. If Nigeria had not been a country afraid of using its best resources, Tafa Balogun would have been at the forefront of those designing an effective and efficient security architecture for Nigeria.
“Good night my dear brother.”
