Former Minister Dasuki Appeals To APC On VP Candidate’s Credentials

June 15, (THEWILL) – Former Minister of State for Information and stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki Nakande, has appealed to the leadership of the Party to be mindful of the country’s peculiarities in the process of choosing a running mate for the presidential candidate of the party.

He pointed out that anybody who will occupy the office of the vice president of this Federal Republic of Nigeria, should be a person with compelling antecedents, as, according to him, the country requires someone who has a very strong character to lead, irrespective of his religion and where he comes from.

According to him, one of the responsibilities of any political party is to win elections and ensure that everybody is carried along, noting that there are so many things that the Government can do to be able to address issues concerning marginalisation and other forms of injustice in the polity.

He argued that political marginalisation should also be addressed, so that everybody will feel a sense of belonging. Saying, “If a Muslim-Muslim ticket will give the APC the required number of votes to win the presidential election, so be it.”

The stalwart also said he is very optimistic that the APC will win the presidential election come 2023, most especially as the standard bearer, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has gone round to see all those who contested the primary with him and appealed to them on the need to work for the interest of the party and the country in general.

Dasuki also stressed that the APC under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari has done its best in terms of infrastructural development, noting that the only gap is the issue of insecurity, which has become endemic.

Speaking on his recent write up, in which he gave reasons why Tinubu should not pick Gov Lalong as running mate, he said just like in his two write-ups to Governor Lalong, he was talking more about issues.

He argued that they have seen the example of what Governors like Babagana Zulum of Borno, Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna, Dave Umahi of Ebonyi have done for their respective states, as he pointed out that “If you go round Plateau state, nothing has changed in the last seven years.”

According to Dasuki, all the projects that Governor Lalong managed to commission are former Governor Jonah Jang’s projects, noting that Jang had completed those projects to about 85 percent, while Lalong only continued to push and commission them.

“The Lalong legacy projects have failed completely. Our roads all over the state are terribly bad. The five kilometres roads that he has started have failed woefully. If we are not careful, APC may lose the Governorship election in Plateau state come 2023”, he noted.

In a swift reaction, however, the State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Dan Manjang, said the claims by the former Minister were not true.

Dan Majang wondered if, “it is now that he has woken up to see that?” He said it is the same Nakande that availed them the opportunity of the use of his Unity FM Radio to sing the song of this administration until recently.
