July 30, (THEWILL) – A former chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Daniel Bwala, has joined the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Bwala, who served as Special Adviser on Legal Matters to the Deputy Senate president, Ovie Omo-Agege, recently announced his resignation from the APC, in protest of the decision of the presidential candidate of the party, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to fly a Muslim-Muslim ticket for the 2023 elections.
Joining the PDP on Friday, Bwala said the party presents a clear vision for one Nigeria, adding that the PDP is the party with a realistic chance of defeating the APC in the 2023 presidential election.
He also said that the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar is the only candidate with superior experience to lead Nigeria out of the woods.
“Today I officially joined @OfficialPDPNig for the following reasons: 1. PDP presents a clear vision for one Nigeria; 2. PDP is the party with the realistic chance of defeating APC; 3. Atiku is the only candidate with superior experience to lead Nigeria out of the woods”, Bwala wrote on his Tweeter handle @BwalaDaniel on Friday.
His defection to the PDP comes barely two days after the minority leader of the House of Representatives, Ndudi Elumelu, led a delegation of opposition lawmakers to Bwala office in Guzape, Abuja.
Elumelu said the visit was the first time the parliamentarians would be visiting a Nigerian to woo him to a party.
“We watched you with admiration when you stood out, from all of them to say, listen, you believe in the sanctity and unity of this country and you believe that nobody should be shut out by any means, and the party that you joined in building, you decided to leave the party, which is APC, on principle”, he said.
In a related development, a chieftain of the APC in Sokoto State, Dahiru Yabo, has joined the PDP.
Yabo, a former Commissioner for Information, as well as Solid Minerals in the state, was received by Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal, his Deputy, Manir Muhammmad Iya, the Secretary to the State Government, Muhammad Ahmad, the state PDP Chairman, Alhaji Bello Muhammad, and some government officials at Government House in Sokoto.
A statement by ‘the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Muhammad Bello, said the defector dumped the the APC because the party lacked internal democracy, embraced favouritism and bootlicking.
Yabo said, “The APC in Sokoto has formed a cabal of which you must be a member in order to have anything to do with the party or to be involved in the progress of the nation or the state.
“By the grace of God, we’re going to support Team Tambuwal, the PDP governorship candidate in the state and all other candidates in the state on the platform of the PDP, and even beyond.”
