August 05, (THEWILL) – Manchester City have rivalled their more illustrious neighbours, Manchester United, on almost every score and are primed to take it a step further by breaking United’s English Premier League transfer record after reaching an agreement to sign Jack Grealish from Aston Villa for a proposed £100m.
All is now set for the Englishman to undergo a medical at the Etihad ahead of the huge money move from Aston Villa on Thursday. The response from Villa when they received the improved City offer was positive and it cleared the way for Grealish to take the medical.
The club had offered Grealish a new and improved contract earlier this summer to convince the player, an Academy graduate at Villa Park, to stay despite him signing a five-year deal last September. But, it is obvious that he has chosen to move to City.
When completed, it will become the biggest transfer deal in English football history. As aforesaid, it will eclipse the previous record held by United’s Frenchman Paul Pogba who returned from Juventus to Old Trafford in 2016 for £93.25m.
Villa allowed Grealish an extended break after playing for England at Euro 2020. Currently, the 25-year-old has returned to training and is doing so alongside Villa team-mates in London all week.
In his 200 appearances for Villa, Grealish found the back of the net 32 times but was instrumental to many a beautiful advance play from just behind the attack. That will come in handy for Pep Guardiola.
