Finally, Gov Matawalle Bows To Buhari, Accepts ‘No-Fly’ Order On Zamfara

BEVERLY HILLS, March 03, (THEWILL) – Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, has changed his mind and now says he accepts the “No-Fly-Zone” order declared on Tuesday by President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Security Council.

Matawalle spoke on Wednesday while featuring on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” programme monitored by THEWILL.

He, however, expressed disappointment that the National Security Council did not consult him before pronouncing the no-fly zone order on the state.

THEWILL recalls that the Zamfara Governor had protested the declaration of his state as a No-Fly Zone, saying, the pronouncement demonstrated that the President and the council lacked knowledge of the reality confronting the state.

He cheekily dismissed the pronouncement as the idle tales of a council whose members imbibed tea before coming up with the resolution.

The National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno (retd.), had on Tuesday said the President approved the declaration of Zamfara as a “No-Fly-Zone” as part of efforts to tackle the security challenges being witnessed in the state.

Monguno had also said the President approved the recommendation that mining activities in the state should stop immediately.

There had been unconfirmed reports that bandits usually received supplies of firearms through conspirators delivering arms through aircraft.

But speaking on Wednesday, the Governor described such reports as a misinformation, challenging anyone with evidence to come forward with it.

Matawalle noted that the state lacked an airport, unlike other states in the North-West geopolitical zone of the country.
