Final Stages Of Electoral Process For Basketball Federation Elections Commence

October 19, (THEWILL) – The 2021 Electoral Committee of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, led by Dr Lanre Glover, commenced collecting forms for prospective candidates on the Monday, October 18 and will continue on Tuesday, the 19th.

According to a press release issued by the committee ahead of the October 30 election in Benin City, Edo State, all duly completed forms must be returned on or before October 26th, with the screening scheduled for October 27th.

The committee directed that all forms be submitted to the NBBF Secretariat in Abuja between the hours of 9 am and 2 pm, or via mail addressed to the Committee’s Chairman and Secretary.

The organisation and supervision of the much-anticipated elections, as well as all decisions related to them, will be in accordance with the 2019 NBBF status.

The press release noted that eligible candidates will compete for the positions of President, Vice President, and Zonal Representatives in the zones of North-central, North-East, North-West, South-East, South-South, and South-West.

In accordance with article 20 of the NBBF statutes, each member state (36 states and the FCT) shall be represented by two delegates (Chairman and Secretary), while any representative must produce a written advice signed by the Chairman on the association’s letterhead paper in the absence of the aforementioned.

At least two days before the elective General Assembly, a final official list of candidates will be published, announced in the media, and sent to all members of the General Assembly.

The Committee insisted that all campaigns must end 24 hours before Election Day, and any form of corruption or other direct inducement of voters may result in the defaulting candidate’s disqualification(s).

Representatives from the Federation of International Basketball Associations, the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Nigeria Olympic Committee will monitor and observe the election.
