SAN FRANCISCO, October 06, (THEWILL) – President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Melvin Pinnick, says that the world governing football body, FIFA, has granted Hoffenheim defender, Kevin Akpoguma, the permission to switch nationality to Nigeria and thus become eligible to play for the Super Eagles.
Pinnick disclosed this on his social media handle.
“Coach Gernot Rohr might be a bit light in the middle. However, I’m extremely happy to announce that @FIFAcom has just granted Hoffenheim defender and former German U-20 national team skipper Kevin Ufuoma Akpoguma permission to make his switch to Nigeria with immediate effect,” he tweeted.
THEWILL recalls that Akpoguma had played for Germany at different youth levels and captained the U20 side to the quarterfinals of the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.
The Delta State native recently agreed to play for the Super Eagles following pressures from the NFF leadership.
