FIA Reminds F1 Drivers Of Ban On Wearing Jewellery During Competitions

April 07, (THEWILL) – The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has reminded Formula 1 drivers that wearing jewellery during on-track sessions is prohibited ahead of this weekend’s Australian Grand Prix.

Following Michael Masi’s dismissal, the judgement was included in the Melbourne event notes provided by new FIA race director Niels Wittich, who is rotating the post with Eduardo Freitas throughout the 2022 Formula One season.

The reminder follows from Article 5 of the governing body’s International Sporting Code, Appendix L, Chapter III, which states: “The wearing of jewellery in the form of body piercing or metal neck chains is prohibited during the competition and may therefore be checked before the start.”

Rather than imposing new restrictions, the FIA has simply reminded F1 drivers of the ISC’s jewellery ban, which has been in effect since 2005.

The ban was enacted as a safety precaution to lessen the risk drivers face when attempting to flee a vehicle after a collision.

The reminder is thought to have been issued after numerous drivers were seen wearing rings and bracelets while driving. The verdict will have no bearing on drivers in and around the paddock, and any infraction will most likely result in a fine rather than any form of sporting penalty.

Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time world champion, frequently wears jewellery in the paddock during race weekends, including rings, earrings, and neck chains, as part of his bold fashion statements.
