FG Orders Immediate Reopening Of Universities

GTBCO FOOD DRINL

September 26, (THEWILL) – The National Universities Commission (NUC) has directed vice-chancellors to re-open schools and allow students to resume lectures.

This was disclosed in a letter signed by the Director, Finance and Accounts of the NUC, Sam Onazi, on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the commission, Professor Abubakar Rasheed.

The letter addressed to all vice-chancellors, Pro-Chancellors and chairmen of governing councils of federal universities, ordered school management to “Ensure that ASUU members immediately resume/commence lectures; Restore the daily activities and routines of the various University campuses.”

THEWILL earlier reported that the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN), had on Wednesday, ordered the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), to suspend its seven months old strike.

ASUU has, however, appealed the ruling of the court.

Lecturers of the Federal Government owned universities had embarked on strike since February 14, 2022, to demand the release of revitalisation funds for universities; deployment of the University Transparency Accountability System (UTAS) for the payment of salaries and allowances of university lecturers; release of earned allowances; the release of the white paper report of the visitation panels to universities and other issues involving the ASUU-FGN 2009 agreement.
