Felagha, Ex-Flying Eagles Keeper, To Be Buried November 18

SAN FRANCISCO, November 15, (THEWILL) – NIGERIA’S former Flying Eagles goalkeeper, John Felagha will be laid to rest on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at the Atan Cemetery in Lagos. He was just 26 when he passed on in Senegal on Sunday, August 30.

Felagha’s family in conjunction with the Aspire Football Dreams Academy, Nigeria confirmed this on Friday. They noted that the decision came after extensive deliberations in Bayelsa, the late player’s home state.

Aspire Football Dreams, Nigeria, known for nurturing football talents, had been working round the clock to plan a befitting burial since the corpse arrived Nigeria from Senegal. All the arrangements have now been concluded for the internment which kicks off at 10:00 am on the 18th.

Coach Joe Erico, Uthman Okunnu and Godwin Malu of the Aspire Football Dreams, Nigeria said that they will not spare any expense to honour a goalkeeper who served Nigeria diligently.

John, was a staff of Aspire Academy, in Saly, Senegal where worked as a goalkeeper coach.

As one of the first set of Nigerians selected for the Aspire Football Dreams Project, he went on to play professional football at KAS Eupen in the Belgium Jupiter League after five years at the Academy where he excelled.

According to Sam Ahmedu, Aspire Football Dreams Director for Nigeria, John was Nigeria’s second-choice goalkeeper at the 2009 FIFA U17 World Cup hosted by Nigeria where Nigeria reached the Finals and the keeper also part of the National Under-20 teams to the next African U-20 Championship and World Cup thereafter.

“He ended his pro career due to injury,” Ahmedu noted.
