Fears Of COVID-19 Contamination Force England’s Ben Chilwell And Mason Mount Into Isolation

June 22, (THEWILL)- COVID-19 continues to interfere with the formation of football squads across the globe with the confirmation coming from the Three Lions of England that the duo of Ben Chilwell and Mason Mount will continue their isolation until Tuesday, 29th June.

This comes because the pair of Englishmen were in close contact with the Scotland midfielder, Billy Gilmour, who tested positive for COVID-19 as reported by THEWILL on Monday.

They had spent close to 20 minutes speaking with their Chelsea team-mate Gilmour in the tunnel after England’s 0-0 draw with Scotland. Thereafter, the news broke that the young Scot had tested positive for the virus and was in isolation himself.

Although, both Mount and Chilwell have since tested negative themselves, England confirmed that Public Health England have advised that the pair must remain in isolation until June 29 at the earliest for certainty.

A statement from England said: “We can confirm that Ben Chilwell and Mason Mount must isolate up to and including next Monday. This decision has been taken in consultation with Public Health England.

“Chilwell and Mount will isolate and train individually in private areas at England’s training base St. George’s Park, with the rest of the squad returning there after tonight’s fixture against Czech Republic at Wembley.

“We will continue to follow all COVID-19 protocols and the UEFA testing regime, while remaining in close contact with PHE.

“The entire England squad and staff had lateral flow tests on Monday and all were again negative, as was the case with Sunday’s UEFA pre-match PCR tests. Further tests will be carried out as and when appropriate.”

As a consequence, Mount and Chilwell will be unavailable for the Three Lions in their final Euro 2020 group stage game against the Czech Republic, in which England can seal top spot in their group with a victory though they have qualified for the next round of matches already.
