November 24, (THEWILL) – The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has approved 65 years as the retirement age for teachers in the FCT.
Years of service have also been pegged at 40 years by the administration.
The approval was disclosed in a notification sent to teachers on Tuesday by the FCTA.
It reads: “An approval for the 65 years new retirement age/40 years of service for Teachers in FCT have just been handed over to NUT FCT Chairman, by the DHRM of FCTA on behalf of the Hon. Minister of FCT.
“Congratulations to the Teachers in FCT.”
The development is on the backdrop of a bill sent to the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari on June 2, 2021.
The bill sought to harmonize teacher’s retirement age and years of service, including an improved remuneration package.
The House of Representatives subsequently passed the bill on November 10 and the development drew commendation from members of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT).
