UPDATE: BREAKING: CBN Confirms Explosion That Rocked Its Calabar Office, Says Was Caused By Gas Cylinder

SAN FRANCISCO, March 11, (THEWILL) – The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has confirmed that there was an explosion in its office in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, on Friday, but was quick to clarify that it was a gas explosion at the part of the premises under re-construction.

The CBN Director of Corporate Communications, Mr. Isaac Okorafor, who confirmed this to THEWILL, disclosed that no death was recorded from the incident, adding that the resultant fire has been successfully put out.

“There is a gas explosion from the construction area of our premises there. There is no fatality yet. A few persons who were injured have been taken to the hospital. The Fire service personnel responded promptly and they have been able to put out the fire,” he told our correspondent.

THEWILL independently gathered that the explosion occurred when a cylinder being used by welders at the site caught fire.
