September 06, (THEWILL) – Former military Administrator of Rivers State, Brigadier General Anthony Ukpo, is dead.
Brigadier General Anthony Ukpo, died at a private hospital in Calabar in the early hours of Monday at the age of 74.
Constitutional lawyer, Leonard Anyogu, who is the Secretary of the Ogoja State Creation Committee which was chaired by Ukpo, confirmed his death.
Anyogu disclosed that Ukpo died in a hospital after lingering sickness.
“I can confirm that the former Milad died this morning. He died in a hospital this morning. It is very sad. Cross River State has lost an asset”, he said.
Born 16th July 1947, in Okpoma, Yala, in Northern Cross River State, the late General was Minister of Information and Culture, and then Governor of Rivers State, from August 1986 until July 1988, during the military administration of General Ibrahim Babangida.
