Ex-Ogun Gov. Ibikunle Amosun Formally Joins 2023 Presidential Race

May 06, (THEWILL) – The immediate past Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has formally declared his ambition to contest the office of president in the 2023 general election with a promise to provide a leadership that will galvanize Nigeria to achieve its manifest destiny as a leader in Africa.

Amosun, who is the current senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly made the declaration on Thursday, at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Central Business District (CBD), Abuja.

Dignitaries present at the event include former and serving members of the National Assembly; representative of the first lady, Mrs Aisha Buhari; Ekiti State governor, Kayode Fayemi; members of the diplomatic Corps; representatives of former president Olusegun Obasanjo; Royal fathers; friends and associates of the former governor among others.

Speaking at the occasion, presidential hopeful and Ekiti State governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, described Amosun as a friend and a brother, promising to work with Amosun if he eventually picks the APC presidential ticket .

Amosun’s formal declaration is coming a day after Godswill Akpabio, minister of Niger Delta affairs; Kayode Fayemi, governor of Ekiti and Adams Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo; all formally declared their interest to run for president under the platform of the APC.

Other presidential hopefuls on the platform of the APC include Rotimi Amaechi, minister of transportation; Bola Tinubu, former Lagos governor; Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo; Dave Umahi, governor of Ebonyi; Rochas Okorocha, former governor of Imo; Yahaya Bello, governor of Kogi, and Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, minister of state for education and Cross River State governor, Ben Ayade.

Chris Ngige, minister of labour and employment, has also announced his presidential ambition, while Jigawa State governor, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, is said to have also joined to presidential race and had purchased APC’s N100 million nomination forms.

The APC special presidential convention is scheduled to hold from Monday, May 30, to Wednesday, June 1.
