March 27, (THEWILL) – Patrice Evra, a former France and Manchester United player, made good of his promise to visit as he arrived Lagos on Saturday to join the “Chess in Slums” programme and play with the children.
As THEWILL reported, Evra was spotted dancing in a bathrobe and an old-school wig to a the song “Essence” by the internationally-recognised WizKid featuring a younger artiste, who goes by the stage name Tems, in an absolutely hilarious video on Friday.
He landed in Nigeria with great fanfare, and a large crowd greeted him. He got to play chess with the youngsters under the bridge in Oshodi, one of the initiative’s target “slums”, and met the organiser of the “Chess In Slums” programme, Babatunde Onakoya.
Evra expressed his admiration for the children in a tweet, while praising the project. He posted: “Checkmate

In his own tweet, Onakoya expressed his respect for the Frenchman and expressed how important the event was to him: “I grew up supporting Manchester United and today I got to meet one of my heroes, Evra, right under oshodi underbridge where he got to learn chess from one of the boys.
“He told me that I was also one of his heroes and this truly means a lot to me”, Tunde added.
Evra came to Nigeria from his country, Senegal where he has consistently promoted causes targeted at young people in different foundations and academies.
