September 02, (THEWILL) – European nations continued their qualifiers for the Qatar World Cup 2022 and the results from some of this latest round of matches on Wednesday are as follows:
Norway 1-1 Netherlands
Louis van Gaal’s third spell in charge of the Netherlands started with a 1-1 draw against Norway in Group G. Erling Haaland opened the scoring in the Group G clash in the 20th minute, but Davy Klaassen levelled for the Dutch in the 37th minute.
Turkey 2-2 Montenegro
Turkey blew a two-goal lead as they drew 2-2 against Montenegro. Cengiz Under and Yusuf Yazici struck inside the opening 30 minutes for Turkey but a late equaliser from Risto Radunovic saw the points shared.
Turkey lead the group on eight points, one ahead of Netherlands, Montenegro and Norway.
Portugal 2-1 Ireland
As THEWILL reported Cristiano Ronaldo broke the all-time men’s international scoring record in dramatic fashion as Portugal beat Republic of Ireland with Ronaldo’s late brace.
France 1-1 Bosnia and Herzegovina
Bosnia resiliently held France to a 1-1 draw as their midfield pulled double shifts to tame the excesses of the French forward line that boasted stars like Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann and Karim Benzema. Although a red card to Jules Kounde in the second half afforded Bosnia a numerical benefit.
Slovenia 1-1 Slovakia
In Group H, Slovenia and Slovakia drew 1-1 with the two goals coming with 10 minutes distance from each other in the first half. The visitors took the lead in the 32nd minute but Slovenia’s Petar Stojanovic equalised in the 42nd minute.
Russia 0-0 Croatia
Russia and Croatia could not find a breakthrough in their Group H tie as the match was deadlocked to the end. The goalless result leaves both teams on seven points at the top of the standings.
Denmark 2-0 Scotland
Denmark scored two goals in two minutes to beat Scotland 2-0 in World Cup qualifying Group F. Daniel Wass struck in the 14th minute and Joakim Maehle added a second shortly afterwards for the hosts.
Maldova 0-2 Austria
Austria made a winning start in the same group as goals from Christoph Baumgartner and Marko Arnautovic saw them beat Moldova away from home.
Faroe Islands 0-4 Israel
Israel won 4-0 against the Faroe Islands. PSV Eindhoven’s Eran Zahavi netted a hattrick, which he completed in injury time as Munas Dabbur added to the rout.
Denmark lead Group F on 12 points from four games with Israel and Austria on seven points and Scotland on five.
