October 22, (THEWILL) – A hip muscle injury sustained by Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland will see the Norwegian sidelined for “a couple of weeks,” according to club manager Marco Rose.
Haaland only returned from another muscle injury last week, scoring twice in a 3-1 win over Mainz before playing the entire game in Dortmund’s 4-0 Champions League loss to Ajax on Tuesday.
“Erling will be out, we’ll be without him for a couple of weeks even. He has a hip flexor injury which simply doesn’t make it possible for him to play. It’s the same thigh, but another location,” Rose confirmed.
Dortmund’s next match is on Saturday at Arminia Bielefeld, while the next Champions League fixture is on November 3 at home against Ajax.
Rose mentioned the disappointment the player felt with the setback: “Erling was really down yesterday because he was happy to be back again. That he’s out again is not good for us, it’s not great for the lad, but Erling will get all the support he needs from the club, from the team.”
With his earlier injury, the 21-year-old Haaland missed Norway’s last two World Cup qualifying games and the national team will be back in action next month against Latvia and the Netherlands.
Dortmund has two new full-back injuries, according to Rose. Belgian right-back Thomas Meunier is unable to train due to a foot problem, while left-back Nico Schulz is suffering from a muscle fibre injury.
