May 13, (THEWILL) – Felix Anyansi Agwu, the club chairman of Enyimba International, has expressed his delight at receiving the National Productivity Order of Merit (NPOM) Award from the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Anyansi Agwu received the top national award on Thursday and was grateful to the President and the country for considering him worthy of being recognised with an award that honours Nigerians who have displayed remarkable production in various fields.

President Muhammadu Buhari conferred Anyansi Agwu with the NPOM award at a high-profile ceremony at the State House in Abuja.

Anyansi Agwu, therefore, joined a long list of notable Nigerians who have received the award, including Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote and renowned entrepreneur, Tony Elumelu.

The two-time CAF Club Administrator of the Year said of the award: “It is something that is very special and will always be what it is. You have over 200 million persons in Nigeria in different fields and in my particular field as a football administrator, I am being accorded this kind of honour and award.

“It shows that there is hope. It means that in hard work people will recognise, people will always remember, people will see. It might take time but one day people will remember.

“It is an eye-opener for me and some other persons that will also receive this in due course. Continue to work hard wherever you are, whichever position you find yourself. People will see you, your country one day will also remember you.

“People will not understand what it is. It is a long story in the sense that it is hard work built with time. So many things that were done years back are being remembered. It is something that I will never forget. The number one citizen of our country, the president of Nigeria, honouring you, you know what that means. It shows that you are also being tasked, there is still more to do.”

“I will continue to look ahead. The ones we have done in the past, that one has gone, the challenge is how we can do even much more so that is what I am focused on now and that is the lesson to be learnt for today,” Anyansi Agwu added.

Senator Abdullahi Adamu, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress; Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation; Dr Chike Ihekweazu, former Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control; Dr Akin Abayomi, Lagos State Commissioner for Health; industrialist Abdulsamad Rabiu, and billionaire businessman Mike Adenuga were among those honoured.

The late Dr Stella Adadevoh, who died guarding Nigeria from the spread of the Ebola virus from the index case, Patrick Sawyer, a Liberian, who was at her medical facility in Lagos and the late Babatunde Lawal both received NPOM posthumous honours.
