September 08, (THEWILL) – The English Football Association (FA) has joined other governing bodies in mourning the passing of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom.

The Royal Family travelled to Balmoral to be by Her Majesty’s side as Buckingham Palace announced on Thursday that she had died peacefully at the age of 96.

In one of her last sports-related events, she recently informed the Lionesses that their victory at Euro 2022 would be “an inspiration for girls and women today, and for future generations”

The FA issued the following statement on Twitter: “We have sent our deepest condolences to our president, HRH The Duke of Cambridge and the whole of the Royal Family, following the passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.

“We join our nation in mourning her loss.”
