May 26, (THEWILL) – A former deputy governor of Cross River State Efiok Cobham has withdrawn from the PDP governorship primaries in the state.

This is contained in a letter with reference number EC4GCO/AD/VOL.1/43, dated 26th May, 2022, and addressed to the state party chairman, Venatius Ikem.

The letter reads in part, “I wish to formally inform you of my decision to withdraw from the 2023 gubernatorial race effective today, the 26th May, 2022.

“This decision is borne out of a careful thought and consideration of the situation on ground and in the interest of our people.

“Suffice it to say, the goal is the same to restore Cross River, rekindle her lost glory and re-integrate her into a world of meaningful and fast-paced development”, the ex-deputy governor said.

Cobham’s withdrawal was announced few minutes before the commencement of the primaries by the chairman of the committee, Jide Coker.

Meanwhile after several hours of delay, the primaries finally kicked off on Thursday afternoon, with all the other contestants on ground to witness the process.
