Edo Gov Poll : Court Nullifies Candidacy Of Ize- Iyamu, Ganiyu

BEVERLY HILLS, January 06, (THEWILL) – The Edo State High Court on Wednesday nullified the participation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship and deputy governorship candidate, Pastor Ize-Iyamu and Audu Abudu Ganiyu in the September 19, 2020 governorship election held in the state.

The nullification was consequent upon a suit filed by a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on the eligibility of Ize-Iyamu’s running mate, Audu Abudu Ganiyu.

A member of the PDP, Kadiri Oshoakhemhe, had in a suit No: B/358/20 filed a case against the APC deputy governorship candidate and two others.

Oshoakhemhe had alleged that Ganiyu presented false information having purportedly used different names in certificates filed in his Form EC9.

According to Oshoakheme, Ganiyu had presented to the INEC, in Form EC9, a Voter’s Card which bears the name Audu Abdul Ganiyu.

He also presented a WASSCE/GCE certificate bearing the name Audu Ahudu Ganeyu. Similarly, an APC membership card bearing the name Audu Gani

Oshoakhemhe prayed the court to interpret the certificates and declare that the deputy governorship candidate of the APC had presented forged certificates to INEC.

Delivering judgment in Benin City, the Edo state capital, the presiding judge, Justice H.A Courage-Ogbebor, said that Ganiyu presented false information to the Independent National Electoral Commission in his Form EC9.

The Court therefore nullified the candidacy of Pastor Ize-Iyamu and Audu Abudu Ganiyu, candidates of the APC.
