ECOWAS Small Arms Project: Two Micro Projects Inaugurated In Bakassi

November 16, (THEWILL) – As part of implementation of the ECOWAS-EU Small Arms and Light Weapons Action, two micro projects have been commissioned and handed over to two communities in Bakassi LGA.

These include a motorised borehole in Ikot Nkese and the renovation of a Town Hall in Akpab Okon Ene Ita Communities both in Bakassi.

The micro projects were donated under the Action titled “Management of Small Arms and Light Weapons in Nigeria”.

It is implemented by the Leadership Initiative for Transformation and Empowerment (LITE) and the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) with support from the European Union (EU)through ECOWAS.

Speaking during, Joel Bisina PhD, the executive director of LITE Africa said the micro projects were donated to boost development and bring about sustainable peace.

Tolu Oyero, who represented the executive director said “all these projects were donated to boost development, bring about sustainable peace and security in our communities.

“It will also prevent further proliferation of illicit trafficking and flow of arms and to enhance community security and peace in border communities in Nigeria”, he said.

He added that the intervention has provided six community micro projects to selected border communities in the two action states of Akwa Ibom and Cross River states.

Also commissioned was an armoury at the Calabar office of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

In his remarks, Chief Asuquo Edet, Village Head of Wait Ikot Okon Idem commended the ECOWAS-EU partnership for coming to the aid of the community.

Similarly, Effiom Ita, Village Head of Ikot Nkese said the borehole project will alleviate the sufferings of the community and afford them clean water.
