D’Tigers Resume Camp Ahead Of World Cup Qualifiers For Window Four

August 23, (THEWILL) – The D’Tigers, Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, will resume training on August 23, in Abidjan, in anticipation of window four of the FIBA World Cup qualifiers for 2023.

This was revealed in a statement issued on Thursday, by Afolabi Oni, on behalf of the Nigeria Basketball Federation’s (NBBF) Media Committee. THEWILL recalls that when the squad lost to Cape Verde, the head coach, Mike Brown, said early preparations were imperative to rectify the team’s sluggish start in the first two frames.

The American coach had said: “Knowing the task ahead in its quest to qualify for the World Cup, the team needs to get more training under their belt before they face host- Cote d’Ivoire on Friday, at Palais des Sports Treichville.

“We are trying to get there earlier to see whether we can have a few more practices to see whether we can get ready to perform at a little higher level in game one. In the last window, things were put together at the last second and we went there right before the first game.”

D’Tigers, who are fourth in the standings, will take on Cote d’Ivoire in their opening match on August 26. They will then play Guinea the following day before facing Angola on August 28. The 2023 World Cup is scheduled to take place in Japan, Indonesia, and the Philippines from August 25 to September 10, 2023.
