D’Tigers Climb Higher In FIBA Men’s World Ranking

SAN FRANCISCO, December 10, (THEWILL) – Nigeria senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, have moved up in the world ranking in the latest release of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) on Wednesday.

Their impressive outings included three consecutive victories in last month’s Afrobasket Qualifiers in Kigali, Rwanda, which is partly responsible for seeing them move up to 21st in the world.

As reported by THEWILL, coach Mike Brown’s men recorded impressive wins over their Group D rivals in Kigali, triumphing over South Sudan with a 20-point margin (76-56), going one better against hosts Rwanda (83-62) before trouncing Mali 91-68 to top the group and finish second in the tournament net rating.

The FIBA ranking shows that D’Tigers will end the year as the highest ranked African team in the Men’s World Ranking. The team has enjoyed a steady rise on the rankings as they moved from 33rd Position to 23rd in the world back in September.
