DS Adegbenro’s Grandson, Adejare Hails Buhari Over Immortalization Of Maternal Grandfather, Rewane, Osoba, Others

BEVERLY HILLS, August 03, (THEWILL) – The grandson of the first Premier of the defunct Western Region, the late Chief Dauda S. Adegbenro, Otunba Adejare Adegbenro has commended the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari over immortalization of his late maternal grandfather, Pa Alfred Rewane, by naming a popular Railway Station (Ujevuwu), after him.

The late Financier of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), Pa Rewane, was the maternal grandfather of Otunba Adejare, who is also the grandson of the deceased former Premier of the defunct Western Region, Chief Dauda S. Adegbenro. His own father is Chief Olaniyi Adegbenro (The Baaloro of Egba land).

In a statement in Lagos, the businessman cum philanthropist also praised the President for according same honour to a powerful elder statesman and political juggernaut, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, who was once the Executive Governor of Ogun State of Nigeria.

He also gave Kudos to the President for extending the honour to other patriotic Nigerians and true democrats like the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Professor Wole Soyinka, late Chief Anthony Enahoro, late Dr. Alex Ekwueme, late Chief Alex Ibru, and Alhaji Balarabe Musa amongst others.

The impressed Adegbenro stated that, the latest development is a clear testimony that the Buhari’s administration is an all-inclusive one devoid of discrimination and marginalization.

According to him, Mr. President has further confirmed that, his administration is a listening and compassionate one that takes the interest of his people into consideration when making policies for the country, describing the latest development as heart-warming, commendable and praise worthy.

The well-deserved honours, Adegbenro pointed out, would go a long way in encouraging other patriots to put in their very best in serving their fatherland, stating that, the latest development would go down in history as a commendable right step towards the right direction.

Recall that Adegbenro, in a widely reported statement recently called on the government and all lovers of democracy worldwide to accord his maternal grandfather and other symbols of democracy constant recognition through prayers, honour and immortalisation for their roles and sacrifices that led to the enthronement of democracy in Nigeria.

It was during the process of attempts at actualising the unjustly annulled June 12, 1993 Presidential election by retired General Ibrahim Babangida that a lot of pro-democracy activists were either eliminated, detained or haunted into exile.

The late Rewane, the financier of NADECO, that fought the military to a standstill was gruesomely assassinated by unknown gunmen suspected to be agents of the state in October 1995.

The younger Adegbenro, who reminded that Rewane and others like him paid supreme prices for their love for a self-rule, asserted that, “nothing can be too much for their remembrance as heroes and martyrs of democracy in this country,” expressing the delight that, their memories, luckily still remains ever green in the peoples mind.

The younger Adegbenro, an international business mogul is the first Otunbalaje of Owu Kingdom, first Asiwaju Ogbeni Oja of Awowo Land, Owu Kingdom, Ewekoro Area, Ogun State, D.B. Business (Honoris Cousa) and Ekerin Baabalaje Egba (Elect).

All the above chieftaincy tittles came about due to his business acumen, commercial ability and his philanthropic nature like his two late grandfathers-Rewane and DS Adegbenro. It is on record that he is the Founder and financier of a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Otunba Adejare Adegbenro Foundation (OAAF), he floated to assist humanity and contribute his quotas to the development of his people and the state.

The Foundation has been assisting the community with essential facilities like boreholes, free eyes test and treatment, feeding of the less privilege among others. It also engages in continuous distribution of palliatives to the less privileged people to cushion the effect of hardship and hunger by the lockdown against the spread of COVIC-19.

In a recent interview, Otunba Adegbenro said, the NGO’s largesse had reached as far as Alake and Olowu places, as well as Ifo and Ewekoro Local Government areas of Ogun State.

“The distribution is a continuous process and it has got to the journalists and various Media Houses. Other aspects of life like education, health and financial assistance to the needy are integral aspects of the Foundation. It is a Non-Governmental and Non-Profitable organisation with a Director-General in charge,” the Ogun State High Chief declared.
