Djokovic Rules Himself Out Of US Open

August 25, (THEWILL) – Following a ruling by the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) about required vaccinations for entry into the country, Novak Djokovic has stated that he will not be competing at the US Open.

Although the competition is scheduled to commence on Monday and the draw is to be held on Thursday, it was still unknown if Djokovic, who is not vaccinated, would be permitted to go to Flushing Meadows and compete there.

The CDC said on Thursday, that international nationals—a group that includes Djokovic—who are travelling to the US, still need to be vaccinated.
Later, Djokovic tweeted to announce he would not be participating.

The tweet read: “Sadly, I will not be able to travel to NY this time for US Open. Thank you #NoleFam for your messages of love and support. Good luck to my fellow players!

“I’ll keep in good shape and positive spirit and wait for an opportunity to compete again. See you soon tennis world!”
