November 20, (THEWILL) – Novak Djokovic beat British number one Cameron Norrie 6-2, 6-1 in a warm-up match for Saturday’s ATP Finals semi-final against Alexander Zverev.
The only thing on the line for both players was pride, with Djokovic already through to the final four and Norrie knocked out after entering the tournament late as a second-choice alternative.
The world number one got off to a fast start, breaking Norrie in the first game of the first set. Djokovic used this as a springboard to sprint to a 4-1 lead after just 18 minutes, claiming the double break.
Djokovic maintained his high level of play, earning 92 percent of first-serve points and won the first set 6-2 in just 29 minutes, leaving Norrie with a lot of work to do.
As Djokovic asserted his authority, Norrie was broken for the second time in the first game of the set. Again, the 34-year-old went up 4-1 after a double break, and Djokovic broke for the third time in the second set to win the match 6-2, 6-1 in dominant fashion.
The Serb will now meet Zverev in the ATP Finals semi-finals on Saturday, with US Open champion Daniil Medvedev facing tournament newcomer Casper Ruud in the other match.
