March 09, (THEWILL) – A Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Federal Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCIID), Joseph Obiajulu Egbunike is dead.
Police source told THEWILL that Egbunike died on Tuesday night after he slumped and was rushed to National Hospital, Abuja, where he was confirmed dead.
The senior police officer, until his death, chairs the Special Investigation Panel constituted by the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, to investigate the suspended head of the Police Intelligence Response Team, Abba Kyari, over money laundering allegations.
Egbunike, who hails from Onitsha, Anambra state, had served the Nigerian Police Force for 33 years
He was a graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, with B.sc (Hons) Accounting, he also holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB Hons.), B.L. and a Masters in International Law and Diplomacy (MILD) and PhD in Criminology.
Late DIG Egbunike was a member of various professional bodies including: International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP); Association of National Accountant of Nigeria (ANAN); Nigeria Bar Association (NBA); Member, Institute of Cost Management (ICM); Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM); and Member, Chartered Institute of Fraud Examiners.
