SAN FRANCISCO, September 12, (THEWILL) – La Liga top club, Atletico Madrid says first team manager, Diego Simone has tested positive for the coronavirus after a round of testing was conducted Friday.
The club in a statement said the Argentine native is however asymptomatic but will go on self-isolation.
The statement reads: “The first team, coaching staff and auxiliary personnel underwent tests on Friday as soon as they returned from training in Los Angeles de San Rafael after a positive test was returned by a member of the travelling party in the previous tests carried out on Thursday.
“The analysis of these new samples in the laboratory has determined that our coach, Diego Pablo Simeone, has given a positive result for Covid-19.
“Fortunately, he does not present any symptoms and is isolating at his home and fulfilling the quarantine after taking training with the team since last Monday.”
Atletico will have a delayed start to the new La Liga season so that they can rest well from their Champions League engagement which ended last month.
THEWILL reports that Atletico’s assistant coach, Nelson Vivas will be in charge of team for their midweek friendly game against Cadiz.
