September 01, (THEWILL) – Sergino Dest has been signed by Milan on a season-long loan with the Serie A champions having a reported €20 million option to make the deal permanent.
The move comes after two seasons with the Blaugrana, where Dest participated in their 2021 Copa del Rey victory under Ronald Koeman. However, since Xavi took over from the Dutchman, openings for Dest have been more constrained, and the 21-year-old’s growth last season was significantly impeded by a string of hamstring injuries.
The versatile defender will now make efforts to gain valuable playing time before the USMNT’s World Cup campaign in Qatar, where he is hoping to feature. He is Milan’s second signing of deadline day, following their acquisition of Wolfsburg’s Aster Kranckx, also on loan with a buy option.
The defending champions are unbeaten and have amassed eight points. On Saturday, they take on archrivals Inter.
