October 13, (THEWILL) – After defeating Austria 1-0 on Tuesday, Denmark qualified for the Qatar 2022 World Cup. Kasper Hjulmand’s squad maintained their flawless qualifying record with Joakim Maehle scoring the game-winning goal, ensuring that they would finish top in Group F.
After eight games, the Danes are seven points ahead of second-placed Scotland, with two games remaining.
Denmark went into the match against Franco Foda’s team knowing that a win would cement their position atop the table. If Scotland had lost to the Faroe Islands, the group leaders would have advanced with a draw.
Throughout the qualifying campaign, Denmark have proved untouchable. They have not only won all of their games thus far, but they have also not conceded a goal.
They have also scored 27 times, averaging over three goals per game on their way to becoming the second European team to confirm their participation in the championship next year.
As THEWILL reported, Germany secured their place in the tournament on Monday when they defeated North Macedonia 4-0.
Scotland is now ranked second in the group with 17 points after defeating the Faroe Islands 1-0 thanks to Lyndon Dykes’ late goal. Israel, who overcame Moldova 2-1 on Tuesday, are four points behind them.
