December 07, (THEWILL) – David de Gea has praised Manchester United fans for their support following his recent return to form, which saw him named the club’s player of the month for November.

The 31-year-old has been one of United’s best performances this season, keeping the team’s defensive problems from becoming worse than they were under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, after an underwhelming few seasons marked by individual errors and rumours that he could be replaced by Dean Henderson.

It is the first time De Gea has received the title since February 2018, and the Spaniard said he is back to his best in an interview with the club’s official website.

“I’m here just to help the team,” he said. “I try to make saves in the important moments. This is why I’m here, to help the team. At the moment, I’m doing well and helping the team. This is my job.

“To be honest, I’ve been feeling very good since the beginning of the season; very confident and very strong in mind. So, yeah, I’m really happy with the award, of course. Thanks to the fans. Of course, it’s been a difficult few weeks in the club but the last results have been great for us. So let’s keep pushing and keep trying our best.”

He continued: “It’s been quite a long time [since he won the award]. Maybe I feel I’ve been very good in some months. But I’m very happy with my form and how I’m playing and how I’m training. Yes, of course, it’s very good when the fans vote for you and decide you are the Player of the Month.

“It’s always good, especially when the fans are behind the players. Like I say, I always try my best for the team and for the club. I try to help from the back, giving my 100% in every training session and in every game. Thanks to the fans who voted for me.”

De Gea has firmly recaptured his starting position at Old Trafford, to the point where Henderson is attempting to force a transfer away, as THEWILL reported.

United are willing to let Henderson leave on a temporary basis, according to sources, but the Englishman would prefer a permanent move after 18 months of restricted appearances.
