September 18, (THEWILL) – The Cross River state chapter People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has kicked off its rescheduled state congress.
The congress aims to elect officers at various levels of the party and is taking place at the Big Tent along Goodluck Jonathan Bypass.
The congress was earlier scheduled to take place last year but was rescheduled following a crisis that erupted in the party.
The crisis came to a head when the governor, Professor Ben Ayade defected to the APC following his inability to control the party structure.
Following his defection the party leadership set up a caretaker committee led by former deputy governor Efiok Cobham to take charge for 90 days pending when the congress will take place.
The state congress has a five man committee with Chief Barr. Oke Muo Aro as chairman and Hajiya Aisha Hashidu as secretary.
Over one thousand delegates across the state are expected to participate.
