October 3, (THEWILL) – The candidate of the Social Democratic Party in Southern Senatorial District of Cross River State, Newton Bassey, has said that the state is poorly represented in the National Assembly.
He said this is evident in the quality of life in the state, adding that the situation ought to be reversed.
He told THEWILL in Calabar that this influenced his decision to offer himself to serve and will work assiduously to add value to the lives of the people when elected.
“Our representation is very low in the House of Representatives and the Senate.
“If you look at the scorecard you will find out that lawmakers from the state have not done enough for the people.
“For instance, there is no law protecting our married citizens and none to give our married women a sense of belonging.
“In addition, we need someone who can checkmate the state executive and facilitate development in our neglected communities”, he said.
He also explained that the state has lost it particularly in the area of cleanliness and the SDP will bring sanity and restore the lost glory of Cross River State.
The SDP, he added, is poised to implement its HEART agenda when it assumes office with the support of the electorate.
According to him, the HEART agenda includes Health, Education, Agriculture, Restructuring and Tourism.
