January 22, (THEWILL) – Several Tunisian players including the head coach, Mondher Kebaier, who tested positive for COVID-19 will not be available for their TotalEnergies 2021 African Cup of Nations round of 16 match against the Super Eagles.

Kebaier was not present at the Roumdje Adjia Stadium’s media centre on Saturday for the pre-match press conference, instead, Tunisia’s assistant coach, Jalal Al-Qadri, spoke to journalists.

Wahbi Khazri, the Carthage Eagles’ captain, and eleven others have contracted COVID-19 and will be unavailable for the game, according to him.

Aissa Laidouni, Dylan Bronn, Ghaylène Chaalali, Ellyes Skhiri, Anis Ben Slimane, Mohamed Romdhane, Ali Maâloul, Ben Hmida, Aymen Dahmen, Yoann Touzgha, and Issam Jebali make up the rest of the eleven players that will miss the tie.

Farouk Ben Mustapha, the game’s goalkeeper, is currently suspended.

Tunisia qualified for the round of 16 after finishing as one of the groups’ four best losers. They won their first match 4-0 against Mauritania but lost the next two.

The Carthage Eagles last played Nigeria in the 2019 AFCON in Cairo, Egypt, in the third-place game. Nigeria beat them by a lone goal, which was scored by the tournament’s highest goal-scorer Odion Jude Ighalo.
